We are anxiously awaiting our “herald of spring”, the osprey – which should arrive any day now. For a moment, I thought they had arrived the other day, as I came upon this sight at a nest on Seconsett Island.
Alas, not an osprey, but a Cooper’s Hawk taking advantage of the perch to survey the area in search of something to eat. I was pleased to see this other harbinger of spring, however. The hawk activity has been amazing everywhere. I shot a few photos and left, only to return a while later…..
…and discovered that the hawk had returned as well, this time sitting in the next. There won’t be much opportunity for that once the osprey arrive.
I was off to the side of the road shooting out the car window, and all of a sudden it flew off. I had no hopes for this shot at the time, but was pleasantly surprised once home when I saw it.
