Solo Surfing At Cisco Beach, Nantucket

During the time at Cisco Beach on our New Year’s Day visit, we spotted this surfer preparing to go out and play in the waves. Our thoughts were that either he needed to clear his head after celebrations of the night before, or that he was just plain crazy. Mostly crazy, in our minds, as he did not have anyone else with him. (Shouldn’t the “buddy system” be in order here?)

Ok, I admit, there are plenty of people who may think we also were crazy for spending time on a beach in the winter, but it was a beautiful day – for surfing too, I suppose.

We watched this sole surfer swim out beyond the waves.

So many times, we thought, “What’s wrong with that one, that was a good one!”, but our vantage point was much different from his.

Finally he was up, and I snapped away.

Steady, now…….

Ooops, and down he went. We only stayed to watch this one run, and were actually pleased to see, as we were leaving, that two more surfers were readying themselves to join him in the waves.
