One year ago there was snow on Cape Cod. Not much, but enough. We haven’t seen snow this year, and I am not complaining one bit. I thought I’d look in my files to see what shots I managed last year on this date, and remembered why I was taking photos of almost dead flowers and rose hips. Color – of any kind – I looked hard for it.

The rose hips were beautiful, as they were one thing that hadn’t turned brown. This year green things are still visible in the yards and the gardens.

We’ll get our white stuff, I’m sure. I’m just appreciating that we haven’t yet this winter and it is the middle of January.

Perhaps this explains why the red rose hips against the white snow were of such interest to merit two photographs.
Just think how “short” the winter will seem this year.
Last year was a cold one.
But, and I’ve said this a million times, I like globe warming, saves on the heating bill!
I remember that all too well! I was once asked for advice on starting a 365 project, and I said – for the love of god, don’t start in January, because by February you’ll be starved for color and warmth and wondering how many different ways you can photograph snow!
p.s. – love the rose hips.
