A gorgeous post Thanksgiving weekend had us out the door and off to explore. So, I finally made it to Dennis and the delightful Mayflower Beach. Photographs of the beach will come later – the shore birds had my attention with their antics, and although the photos are not as sharp as I’d like given the distance (and the wrong lens), I had to share the sights.
The birds spent their time at the water’s edge until someone passed by. Then they would swoop into the air, circle round and land again, all in a group.
Sandpipers? Sanderlings? Plovers? I have no clue; have to ask a bird expert – Andy? Perhaps he’ll check in and let us know.
Up – down – up and around. It was such fun to watch.
It amazes me that there aren’t massive bird collisions when a flock circles so quickly.
Best guess is Dunlin or Sanderlings. The dark ones are throwing me for a loop.
