This morning’s event was a visit from our resident turtle. This Eastern Box Turtle travels a direct path through our yard about once a year, and I’ve been lucky to capture it (with a camera) several years in a row.
We assume it is the same one (prior post), as they do not venture very far, and it is always a male passing through.
The Eastern Box Turtle is a “Species of Special Concern” in Massachusetts, as housing and industrial development, lawn mowers and cars hitting them as they attempt to cross the road have done a number on the population.
This little guy was trying to hide today, tucking his head in until I moved away.
Soon, he peeked out, looked around and sat there.
Pretty soon, he looked out and decided to “make a run for it”……….
Living with nature on Cape Cod is fun.

What a great find! I have not seen one in the wild for years.
Andy, I think I am on a wildlife path here!
